The Value-Led Business Model.

Right now, most of your value is trapped. In your head, in your proposals, in the conversations that can only happen when you're in the room.

If everything runs through you, nothing can grow past you.

A value-led business is organised around the value it creates, not the hours it sells. Value creation is baked into the business model, so you can grow without carrying more load.

It gives the buyer something easy to choose, the team something easy to deliver, and the owner room to lead instead of carry.

I'm Jake.
I Work as a Value Smith.

My job is to help you recognise the value you create, own it like it's yours, and express it in language the market understands.

The work is drawn from what you already know but haven't yet named, and from what your clients already feel but haven't yet been able to put into words.

You don't need to add more. You need to make what's there land. So the market can buy it, your team can deliver it, and your life has room for both.

He's helped me uncover business blockers I was completely unaware of and provided me with tailored advice specific to my business objectives and needs.

Jake has delivered results twice what I had hoped for before signing up. Our business today is far healthier than when we started it, we had far higher sales dollars back then & systems that were in place for years before we had taken over.

Jake's astute knowledge of what it takes for a business to be profitable, sustainable & his ability to help guide & inspire me & my team towards that path has been life changing!

Having a small internal team, I found myself working in the business and not for the business, after working with Jake, it became clear to me that it was extremely detrimental to the growth of our business.

Jake introduced me to techniques that allowed to me recognise my staff’s skills better, which in turn gave me the opportunity to zone in and utilise those skills and improve their productivity.

Jake was a fantastic business coach and mentor. Our one on one sessions were invaluable - he provided me with so much information, resources, business strategies and advice.

He kept me on track when I wasn't sure if I should continue with my business idea and he was very quick to answer any questions/concerns I had, even if it was outside our 'business meeting' time. Thank you so much for all your support and encouragement Jake.

FAQs

The only silly question is the one you didn't ask.

What is the role of a business coach?

A good business coach helps you make decisions and drive the business forward. They will help you see what is difficult to see when you are buried inside the business. They ask better questions, challenge the story you are telling yourself, help turn your expertise into clearer decisions, stronger offers and practical action.
‍
I see my role as equipping you with the tools, perspectives and frameworks you need to get where you want to go. I want the last impact to be you feeling like you have stronger ability to create the business and life you want. How you spend your days is how you spend your life, and I want you to spend more time doing stuff that feels meaningful and valuable.

What kind of businesses do you coach?

I guess the classic term is ‘professional services’ but that feels a little beige to me - I specialise in helping people who sell their smarts as services.
Tastemakers, industry leaders, thought leaders, advisors, disruptors, polymaths… you name it.
‍
As a functional role title that could be consultants, advisors, coaches, founders, agency owners, and professional service providers (accountants, bookkeepers, financial planners, buyers agents etc) who have built something real, but suspect their current model is making growth harder than it needs to be.
‍
They are often selling too much of their time, relying on referrals or retainers, and struggling to package their expertise in a way that is easier to sell, deliver and scale.

Is it worth paying for a business coach?

It can be, if coaching changes the quality and speed of the decisions you make.
‍
Information and ideas are part of it, but that’s the most basic level of value. Most experienced business owners already know plenty. It comes from identifying the real constraint, testing the right move and following it through. Good coaching should help you stop solving proxy problems and put your energy where it can produce a meaningful result.
‍
In terms of whether my coaching is worth it? If you’re driven and reflective and curious, we’ll probably get along great guns.

What return on investment can I expect from coaching?

The return will depend on your business, your starting point and how consistently you act on the work. I do not promise a generic revenue multiple because that’s crap, and the bigger-bolder-promises-arms-race probably has you in disbelief already about that anyway.
‍
I only ever work with an intimate number of clients at any given time, so I can’t afford to strike out with a business I don’t think I can help.

For me to feel like there’s ROI there, I need to believe I can help you get where you want to go and provide far more value than my fees. Increasing sales isn’t everything, but it’s always on my mind, especially early in the engagement.

I know and regularly feel the weight that comes with meaningful investment when you’re running your own show - so I’m always trying to ease that burden ASAP by adding to the bottom line. When I invest in something, I want to see that I’m getting a return and have made the right decision, so I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t acknowledge that for you.
‍
Every business is different, but the work might focus on better-fit enquiries, higher-value offers, shorter sales cycles, more recurring revenue and less reliance on you for delivery.

When should you consider getting a business coach?

Consider coaching when you want to grow. When you know you are capable of more, and you want the hard work you do to contribute directly to building the business and life you want. Not just working for the sake of work.

My best results come from people who have opportunities they want to make the most of, and they know they can grow with the right challenge, support and perspective.

What makes your business coaching method unique?

My work brings together Mechanics, Mindset and Mojo. This means I work on the business side (the vehicle) and the people side (the drivers).
Mechanics is how you operate as a business commercially. It’s a complete ecosystem designed to deliver value to your clients and maximum utility (time and profit) to the owner.

I call it the Value-Led Business Model and it covers marketing, sales, service design and team structure.
Mindset is the inner game which shapes how you think about value, leadership and growth. Mojo is the outer game. It’s how you show up to your audience, clients and team as the person you want to be to create the results you want.
‍
Working on one while ignoring the others usually creates another bottleneck.
‍
Also, I’m hellbent on my clients winning, and I’m an insatiable learner and tinkerer, so everything comes with templates, worksheets and tools which will build stuff for you. I don’t mind getting my hands dirty either, so I make myself available to feedback between sessions and review and even sometimes create stuff for clients.

How long does it take to see real growth from coaching?

You can expect early wins within the first few weeks, usually through a clearer decision, a sharper message or an action you have been avoiding.

You’ve got enough going on, and I refuse to be a burden, so we’ll look for where we can reduce the load you’re carrying straight away. I’m also looking to show you genuine ROI (which for pretty much everyone means cold-hard-cashola) and fast, so I’ve got some moves to tune up the sales and marketing quickly.
‍
As we work together more and get a feel for one another, we usually get a little bolder and take on some big, fun stuff. We’re going for sustainable progress. And all along, you’re going to build more and more ability to create more of what you want in your life and business - and that’s fun stuff.

How do business coaching sessions work?

There are a few different types of sessions and no two are identical. You can think of them as broadening or consolidating though:

Broadening sessions are more like workshops (Some training and then we’ll apply it to your situation to get you to first workable draft) or they’ll create perspective so that you can see your situation and options in a new light. If we’re working on building something, I’ll give you tools and resources (worksheets, templates, custom GPT’s, AI prompts and knowledge docs) to go with it so you can further the work and repeat this process over and over.

Consolidating sessions are more like me lasering on what’s going on for you right now, and creating a space where you can make the decisions that matter. These drive action and meaningful change.
‍
We identify the real problem, explore the available options and get you clear and ready to act. I bring questions, challenges and my frameworks. You bring your experience and ownership of the decision. I’ll help you see the terrain and choose the path, but I do not pretend that I’ll be the one who’ll have to walk your journey, and I respect that the decision belongs to you.

How much time will I need to dedicate to coaching?

You do not need another heavy programme sitting on top of an already full week.

The sessions create direction and momentum. Meaningful change comes from applying one or two focused decisions between them. The exact commitment depends on the work, but we keep actions small, specific and realistic to your current demands. Coaching should reduce wasted effort and decision drag, rather than become another thing you have to carry.

Most sessions are 60-90 minutes about once per fortnight. You’ll usually walk away with the thing you need at least partially built. But knowing the kind of person you are, you’ll probably want to percolate a little and polish it before shipping it. How long that takes depends on you.

To put a number on it, I’d say most successful clients spend another 60-90 mins a fortnight on top of the session doing the work. You could probably average it at 60-90 mins a week total. That said, I want to free up more than that amount of time though instantly, because I don’t want you having any time management excuses ha.

How do I choose the right business coach in Melbourne?

Choose someone you gel with and who appreciates your unique being and business. Someone who understands the kind of business you are building and can explain how they think, rather than hiding behind motivation or vague promises.
‍
Ask who they work best with, what happens inside the coaching, how progress is measured and when they would tell a client they are the wrong fit. Ask them for times when their program hasn’t worked (ask me that too btw, we’re all consenting adults so it’s important you know what you’re getting into).

Most importantly, pay attention to the conversation. Do you feel seen, challenged and clearer about your business?
That matters more than finding the loudest coach in Melbourne. You are looking for the right whisper, not another megaphone.
